How to protect your home from summer winds
The summertime is almost upon us and with the warmer weather comes the potential for some dangerous storms and winds. The heating up of the atmosphere, when it comes into contact with the collier air around us can make for some really volatile days of sun and fun one minute, to suddenly needing to find shelter while watching debris blowing around. Not only can this ruin summertime fun, but it can also damage your home if you are not careful. Here are a few steps you can take to help protect your home.
Check what needs repairs
Things around your property that need repairs can cause damage to your home. Things like loose fence boards, peeling shingles, and unsecured awnings will be much more costly to repair after a storm than doing preventative repairs before the wind picks up.
Secure loose outdoor items
Sitting out in the backyard with the barbeque fired up and a margherita in your hand may sound like a great day, but when the storms roll in, these are all things that can potentially damage your home. Make sure you have all of your outdoor furniture either secured or put away properly to make sure nothing suddenly grows legs and crashes into your home.
Examine Trees and shrubs
Trees and shrubs are great for providing some relief from the hot summer sun, but these things are also able to do some damage in a windstorm. Make sure to remove any dead limbs or bushes that may break off and become a hazard in a high wind situation.
In the summer, strong winds can do a lot of damage to your home. When strong wind gusts come in contact with your house or building, they push and pull on them forcefully. This causes wear and tear on doors, windows, roofs and other parts of the house that are exposed to this type of weather. Strong winds also cause structural stress because they change how buildings sit on their foundations as well as distribute weight differently throughout different rooms within the structure.
